Week Two.... My Speeder is a Bicycle.... :D

Hello Friends and Family!

Things have been super great here in Albuquerque! I hope that everything is going well with all of yous! And if not, feel free to write me and angstily gripe to me about how your life sucks at either:

My Apartment by mail:
Elder Jacob Guymon
701 Stephen Moody Apt. Number 1332
Albuquerque, NM 87123

or via the internet:

But really, all sarcasm aside, I would love to hear from all of you! And if not some heads may be rolling... :D muahaha

In all seriousity things are going so good here! The people here are so interesting (in a good way... well sometimes in a bad way too :D) There is so much diversity here and people are super open about talking about their religious beliefs! It's surprising when you start talking to a person about how our message of Jesus Christ can change lives, and they actually seem genuinely interested about how they can come closer to Him!
I have been also really impressed at how many little miracles have happened out here. For example, we were going through a list of some Potential Investigators (people who have shown interest in learning more about the church), and we were stopping from house to house to try to see if anybody would be interested in learning more about us. We were out for about an hour and either they weren't home or they politely declined. When we were about to head home, we got the impression to try one last house. And when we went to the house, the person that we were looking for wasn't home, but her 21-year-old son was. As we talked with him about why we were there, he seemed to have a lot of genuine questions about the nature of God and just kind of where we fit into the equation. As our doorstep conversation progressed, we taught him about the Restoration and about the Book of Mormon! He seems really interested, and we will see him later this week! Coincidence? I think not.

Things are going awesome here though! Elder Jewett and I are getting to know each other more and more every day! Part of me still misses home, but I have never been happier!

In Albuquerque At Last :)

Dear Friends and Family!

Hello from Tatooine (Albuquerque) ! Things have been going fantastic here! I flew in yesterday (July 22) at 11:30 and I spent the whole day in the Mission Home. While we were there, the new missionaries were briefed by the Mission Presidency and the office staff! Afterwards we were able to have a testimony meeting! It was so cool; I was able to feel such a Spirit there!

Today I got transferred to East Albuquerque Zone, City View West Area. My new companion, Elder Jewett (Jew-ett), is pretty dern awesome so far! He's from Ellensberg, Washington and has only been out for 6 months. He has a strong testimony and has been an awesome example for me so far!

The City View West Area that I am in is a more poor part of town, but the people that I have met so far have been amazing! Also my apartment is in a really nice part of the area, so no need to worry! :) Oh and the members are such a help here. One member took us to go and contact some of the "unknown members" (members who's records get transferred, but who never show up to church). Also another member actually sold me his barely used: bike, lock, and helmet; for dirt cheap!!

#funfacts The ward that I will be serving in here has 900 members in it! :D

I also have a dishwasher, and a washer/dryer *woo woo*!

Loving it! Hope to here from you all!

MTC Week 2

Hey Friends and Family!!! The MTC has been so fantastic! I am learning so much here! The teachers here are amazing and there is a ton of support everywhere you look! Thanks to all of you who have sent me mail! And for those of you who haven't yet, I hate you.... Hahahah i am totally kidding! But i don't have any of your addresses so please send me a letter if you would like one in return ;) But please make sure that you send them to the mission office (on an earlier post) because i fly to Albuquerque on Monday!!! Wahooo!
But things are so much fun here, I have gotten to know the people in my district (about 8-10 people who live next to me) and the people in my zone ( about 40 ish people on my floor)! It has been so much fun getting to know them! They are all good men! We are a little goofy at times, but we can still have fun and feel the Spirit! Fun story, one of the zone leaders, Elder Farr, is from Dubois, Idaho and he randomly brought a lasso to the MTC. And so during Prep time, I told him to see if he could lasso me and then I took off running down our residence hall. And naturally he tossed the lasso, it caught my foot and I face planted :) Afterwards we couldn't stop laughing and I had a pretty nice rope burn! :) :) but no concern I am totally fine! The MTC has been so spiritual but it hasn't been a total bore!

For any of you that are thinking about going on a mission any time soon, a word of advice: Read Preach My Gospel!!! I was surprised at how much more there was to that book outside of the lessons! I promise that if you want to be a better missionary that's the key!
We also do a ton of role playing here where we practice extending invitations, practice what we want to say, and weirdly enough you can still feel the Spirit even by practicing with them!
For the role play, we are teaching two investigator: Emma, and Jose! In the role plays we get to teach an actor the lessons and address any concerns they might have! It is so cool!

But all in all, things are still great! I hope to hear from you all and thanks for reading!
Love,
Elder Guymon!

First Letter from the MTC

Hey Family and Friends!
Things are going fantastic here in the Missionary Training Center! Things have been exceedingly busy here, but I am happier than I have ever been before and there is such a cool Spirit here! The food is fantastic, the teachers are exceptional, and the people are all fantastic! My Companion, Elder Yates, is no exception to the amazing people here! He's from South Jordan, is going to Albuquerque the same day as me, and is the middle child in his family. He graduated last year and loves country music, boating, 4-Wheeling and basically doing anything outside. And the best part of all is that we get along really well! I also have two other roomates (Elder Lloyd and Elder Campbell) who are equally as fantastic, but who are going to the Ohio, Columbus mission on the 22nd as well)
One thing that I have noticed here in the MTC is that Attitude is Everything! The main difference between the average and the extraordinary is in how they view this work. We are here to serve Jesus Christ and not just "our time". The MTC has been such a testimony builder for me! You can always feel the Spirit here if you will let it :)
Thanks for all of you who have helped out in the past few weeks!
Love,
